Courtney Allison Moulton lives in rural Michigan with her family, horse, donkey, and a flock of spoiled sheep. When she isn't studying ancient civilizations or writing about magic and monsters, she's busy with farm chores. Her debut novel ANGELFIRE was published when she was just 24 years old.
My *Unofficial* Bio
I was born in Austin, Texas and my family bounced around several states until we finally settled in Michigan. My cherished Sicilian, Greek, Arabic, Jewish, French, and English ancestry has blessed me with unique features and a beloved history. I struggled with my identity throughout my entire childhood, sparking an obsession with Ancient Mediterranean civilizations in search of where I came from. My childhood and teen years were well-spent at horse shows and I grew up on a Northern Michigan lake. My voracious reading habits started with Goosebumps books and Nancy Drew mysteries. I am the oldest of five siblings and my huge family means more to me than anything.
These days I own a horse (a Swedish warmblood mare named Pia) and my passion is hunter/jumper riding. We raise sheep and even have a miniature spotted donkey named Cosmonaut. I collect 1980's My Little Ponies, am obsessed with the Old West, and love playing Pokemon, The Sims, and Nancy Drew PC games. My greatest influences are Kelley Armstrong, JK Rowling, Laurell K. Hamilton, and the X-Men and Wonder Woman comics. As for movies and TV, I was greatly influenced by Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Underworld and Resident Evil franchises, Indiana Jones, and the Universal Monsters like the Mummy and Dracula. If I weren't an author, I would be an astronaut or archaeologist, but those careers make it hard to have a farm full of animals, so here I am, writing about heroines who have way more exciting lives than my own.
I wrote my first novel when I was sixteen and then in November 2008, I wrote ANGELFIRE for NaNoWriMo. The next year when I was 23 years old, my agent sold the trilogy to Katherine Tegen Books, an imprint of HarperCollins. My favorite part of writing is the research and I tend to get obsessive over topics. I am currently hard at work on one of my 150+ unfinished manuscripts, and love to write about magic, monsters, parallel worlds, history, romance, and snarky/violent immortals.
